“Four more days, Ms. Guyon, and we wouldn’t be talking today.” Those were my cardiologist’s words. Just writing them here sends a chill down my spine.
On June 2, 2024, I was taking a walk with my family in the fields near our house. After 15 minutes of leisurely walking, my heart started racing, I became unusually short of breath, and I felt terribly tired. My family took me to the emergency room. A few hours later, the diagnosis came: I was having a severe pulmonary embolism.
For someone like me—who works out, eats a balanced diet, meditates, and practices cardiac coherence—it was a real shock.
So, when I had to stay in the hospital for treatment, there was no way I was going to let my teams down. Even from a distance, I kept in touch with them, supported them, and stayed present. Through this ordeal, I remained a pillar of strength for them.
So even though this experience remains a mystery to me—since I’m under regular medical care—I’ve learned six things:
▪️ Surround yourself with positive people; true relationships reveal themselves in difficult times. Those who matter will be by your side.
▪️ Be authentic: life is too short to pretend to be someone you’re not.
▪️ Let go: when faced with the unexpected, acceptance becomes your greatest strength.
▪️ Get regular medical checkups: especially for women, get heart screenings.
▪️ Learn to manage your stress: it can have a significant impact on your health.
▪️ Stay active: walk, move around, and avoid a sedentary lifestyle.
I can’t thank the medical staff enough for saving my life that day.
Take care of yourself because life is short.
About 6 years ago, as I often do when I go for a run with my dog Puglia, I feel a pain in my left elbow which, as I run, radiates down to my wrist and fingertips. It then manifests itself every time I go for a run, right from the start, lasts just a few minutes and then disappears. I get into the [...]
“I was at Roissy airport after a long-haul flight. While waiting in the endless customs line, I had trouble moving my left leg. It felt terribly heavy and painful. It was worse than having my leg fall asleep. I had been drinking water and walking often during the eight-hour flight. I figured this [...]
November 10, 2022, around 5:20 p.m., marked a turning point in my life. Since then, there has been a before and an after. That day, during a routine boxing workout, a sharp pain shot up between my shoulder blades, gradually spreading to my neck and then to my jaw. I wasn’t worried, thinking I’d [...]
