What are the strategic objectives of Agir pour le Coeur des Femmes?
Claire Mounier-Vehier: our priority is to advance prevention, so that it becomes an integral part of the medicine of today and tomorrow, as it helps to transform and balance the French healthcare system.
Thierry Drilhon: we bring together the private and public sectors, companies and associations, local authorities and healthcare professionals from all disciplines, so that together we can deploy a formidable collective intelligence in the territories to save lives.
The 2023 Women's Heart Bus tour has exceeded all expectations... How do you explain this success?
CMV: we simply apply the principle of "going towards", which corresponds to a demand from the population. Women don't take care of themselves, and are afraid to go to the doctor for fear of discovering a pathology. Since fear does not avoid danger, we offer them a complete cardiovascular and gynaecological check-up close to home. Beyond the ease of access, our passage triggers enthusiasm among health professionals and all stakeholders in each stopover town, because this action makes sense for everyone.
TD : participation has risen sharply, at all levels. This year, 4,672 women benefited from free screening, an average of 275 screenings per stage. 1,058 healthcare professionals were involved, either as volunteers or on secondment from local health structures, almost double the number from last year. I'd like to pay tribute to them, and I'm impressed by their commitment!
Who are your local contacts?
TD: we've created a community of Ambassadors, who act effectively on a daily basis to raise awareness and support for women's cardiovascular disease on a national scale.
CMV : this exceptional mobilization, which brings together hundreds of talents across France in the service of women's health, gives us a lot of energy to go further. We are acting with determination to build the prevention of tomorrow.
Is this territorial anchoring a priority for you?
CMVLocal roots are essential. Staying in a town for three days a year is obviously not enough. Only collective action mobilizing local players
local players can have any real long-term impact. A multidisciplinary, cross-generational network of talent dedicated to women's health is being built up, saving lives on a daily basis.
TD: the success of our action relies on the strong involvement of cities, the expertise of local healthcare professionals, the associative ecosystem and the solidarity of our funding partners. They prove, if proof were needed, that the corporate world does indeed have a major role to play in prevention in action.
Why create a Women's Heart Day?
TD: around a hundred towns have expressed an interest in hosting the Women's Heart Bus in the coming months or years. To meet this demand, we had to innovate even further and offer an action that was easier to deploy and more firmly rooted in the local area. In this way, we want to bring prevention into healthcare establishments.
CMV : we have grouped the ten screening stages of the Women's Heart Bus into six stages, while preserving the quality of medical expertise. Thanks to this scheme, we hope to double the number of women screened each year, covering the whole of France.
French women remain at high cardiovascular risk?
CMV : the third edition of our National Women's Health Observatory has confirmed an alarming figure: 9 out of 10 women have at least two cardiovascular risk factors. Medicine's failure to take women's specific needs into account tends to result in major shortcomings in treatment. Symptoms are less well identified, treatments more suited to men...
What is your outlook?
TD : through our various prevention-in-action schemes, we are mobilizing an ecosystem in the service of women's health, thanks to the support of all our partners and donors. When we see how far we've come in four years, it encourages us to keep innovating to meet medical needs and local expectations. Let's not forget that we are still facing a medical and social emergency. We must continue to challenge prejudices and develop professional practices that take account of women's specific needs.
