The recommendation: drink around 1.5 liters of water a day. The findings of this National Institutes of Health study have just been published in eBioMedicine. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/good-hydration-linked-healthy-aging Using data collected from 11,255 adults over a 30-year period, the American researchers analyzed the links between serum sodium levels (which increase when water intake is lower) and various health indicators. Participants with elevated sodium levels were more likely to develop chronic diseases and show early signs of biological aging, compared to those with average serum sodium levels. https://lnkd.in/e8RFb4ZU The same team had previously found links between high serum sodium levels and increased risk of chronic diseases such as heart failure, atrial fibrillation, as well as diabetes and dementia. When we feel the need to drink, it means we're already short of water. So it's best to drink without waiting to feel thirsty. This is all the more important in hot weather or during physical activity. And what about herbal teas or infusions if you have trouble with plain water?
