Prevention saves lives

This is unacceptable: not only do fewer than one in two women have a mammogram for breast cancer screening, but these figures are also falling: 46.5% of women aged 50 to 74 had a mammogram in 2023, compared with 47.6% in 2022!

Yet 9 out of 10 breast cancers can be cured when detected at an early stage... We are fortunate to be able to benefit from this preventive treatment! It's vital that each and every one of us gets involved in the screening process. What are we waiting for to take care of ourselves?

Mammography should be carried out every 2 years from the age of 50, or every year as assessed by your doctor or gynecologist. 2 out of 3 breast cancers develop in women over 50. The disease is rare in women under 35, and exceptional in those under 20.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women, with almost 60,000 women affected each year. It's vital to spot the first signs as soon as possible: a new lump, in the breast or armpit, discovered by self-examination; a change in the shape or size of the breast; discharge from the nipple; a noticeable change in the appearance of the skin of the breast or areola... Talk to your doctor immediately.

Fortunately, not every lump is cancer! Out of 5 lumps examined, 4 are benign. Follow-up by your general practitioner or gynecologist is very important.

Don't be afraid of bad news, because treatments are effective. The worst thing is to refuse to know, because every day counts.
