A plea for humane medicine

placeholder image

"We don't treat sick people, but people who have a disease". Prof. Gerard Reach develops this reflection on the basis of one observation: the non-observance of patients and the clinical inertia of doctors. He proposes that these phenomena may be the consequence of the evolution of medicine today: the development of its highly technical nature, which is essential, has not been accompanied by an effort to preserve its humanity. Gérard Reach teaches students at the University of Bobigny the principles of personal medicine. He has published a book on the subject. https://lnkd.in/dSU9bDdx The first part is an anthology of philosophical texts applicable to medicine. In the second, he shows how these concepts can be applied to the conception of a human medicine, based on a reciprocal relationship of care founded on trust. In particular, this involves therapeutic patient education and shared decision-making, which thus gain their true ethical dimension. A must-read!
