A report published by the Optim'IC program highlights the fact that heart failure is often diagnosed late, and that the link between hospital and outpatient care needs to be optimized. It proposes to systematize early detection of heart failure and its comorbidities, and to encourage preventive actions. Heart failure is an abnormality of the heart pump, which no longer provides sufficient oxygen and nutrients. Every year, heart failure is responsible for some 70,000 deaths and 165,000 hospitalizations, followed by numerous re-hospitalizations, which impact on patients' quality of life and generate considerable healthcare costs. Screening, control and treatment of hypertension and diabetes help to reduce heart failure. And as with most cardiovascular pathologies, regular physical activity and a healthy lifestyle are essential.
