Sitting can kill

placeholder image

Sitting is the new smoking: we've come as far with physical activity as we did with smoking 40 years ago.

Suddenly, we became aware of its harmful effects and took action. It's the same with the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle today: they're still largely underestimated.

Yet it's very simple: you need to move a little every day, even every hour if possible, and not just run for 2 hours on Sundays...

All you have to do is rediscover the reflex to get moving: as soon as possible, get up, move around a bit, stretch... 2 to 3 minutes every hour... Go for a drink of water, make a phone call while standing up and walking...

Regular physical activity reduces the risk of developing a chronic disease by 20-30%, and promotes mental well-being.

According to Anses, 95% of the French adult population is exposed to a risk of deteriorating health through lack of physical activity or too much time spent sitting down.

Women are more at risk: 70% of them are below all the activity levels identified for good health, compared with 42% of men.

The minimum dosage? 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day, equivalent to around 4,000 steps. It's enough to walk or cycle to work, to get off one or two public transport stops earlier, to park your car not systematically opposite your home, to do some gardening and/or housework, to take the stairs rather than the elevator, to stand up and take a few steps on the telephone, to get up for at least 5 minutes every 2 hours when telecommuting...

Let's move, let's move, let's move
