I’m 61 and I love outdoor sports, the mountains and nature. Even my bout with breast cancer 30 years ago couldn’t knock me out of the game. Instead, it helped me heal. In 2017, during a period of enormous chronic stress due to family and professional commitments, I suddenly felt pain in my chest and even more pain in my jaws. I was briefly hospitalized in the cardiology unit where I had a normal coronary angiography and was diagnosed with coronary spasm. After that, activity was harder for me and I got very tired and out of breath. But it was unthinkable to stop hiking in the mountains during summer or winter—stopping would have put me into depression. Fortunately, I heard about Women’s Cardiovascular Healthcare Foundation on a radio show! They listened carefully, provided good recommendations and prescribed treatment better suited to this disease and my history (migraines, sleep apnea, etc.). I’m writing this today after a lovely Alpine hike with no pain! Thanks to you, life is wonderful!

At 70 years of age, I was in good health and never thought I’d one day be diagnosed as a person with heart failure (dilated cardiomyopathy). I had a narrow escape… It was the only organ I didn’t think would be affected. Until that point, my physical condition hadn’t caused any problems as I [...]
