The forgotten woman's heart?

This question is not the title of a hit TV series or a romantic soap opera, but one of the most poignant issues in cardiology today. It's as if the major epidemiological studies focused on 50-year-old men had "forgotten" women's hearts. And it is with astonishment that most doctors have discovered in recent years that a woman is more likely to die from a myocardial infarction or stroke than from breast cancer.

This awareness is largely due to Pr Claire Mounier-Véhier, a specialist in cardiology and arterial diseases, who, with Thierry Drilhon, created the association "Agir pour le cœur des femmes" (Acting for women's hearts) to alert women and their doctors to the seriousness of this disease, anticipate the occurrence of often dramatic accidents and act to offer the best treatments adapted to their gender.
