ANTICIPATE
Physical activity

95% of French people are insufficiently physically active

It's even worse than we thought: 95% of the French adult population is at risk of deteriorating health through lack of physical activity or too much time spent sitting down.

95% of French people are insufficiently physically active

According to a study by the Anses (Agence nationale de sécurité sanitaire de l'alimentation, de l'environnement et du travail) published today, the risks are increased when lack of physical activity and excessive sedentariness are combined. Women are more exposed: 70% of them are below all the levels of activity identified for good health, compared with 42% of men. The Anses defines three physical activity thresholds to avoid the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle. Threshold 1: 30 minutes of cardiorespiratory exercise at least 5 days a week (stair climbing, cycling, running, walking at a good pace, etc.) Threshold 2: muscular strengthening 1-2 times a week (carrying a heavy load, playing tennis, swimming, aerobics, etc.) Threshold 3: flexibility exercises 2-3 times a week (gymnastics, dance, yoga, etc.). The study also estimates that the least active 27% of adults have a 40% higher risk of all-cause mortality than the rest of the population. So, let's get moving!
