Taking a deep breath reduces stress

Taking a deep breath reduces stress

If you're feeling stressed, take three or four deep breaths in a row and you'll feel better. By breathing hard, we slow down our heart rate and bring our brain back to a more serene state. Slowing down our heartbeat helps reduce stress.

This means that by working on our breathing, we can better manage our stress. To control our heart rate, there are some very simple exercises. It's called cardiac coherence.

We generally breathe between 8 and 20 times a minute. By lowering our breathing to 6 times a minute, we lower our heart rate and achieve a good rhythmic resonance between our heart and lungs.

Inhale for 5 seconds, exhale for 5 seconds, all for 5 minutes and 3 times a day. This is what we call the 365 method: 3 times a day, 6 breaths a minute for 5 minutes.

Controlled stress is good for everything: better sleep, lower cardiovascular risk, a stronger immune system, less nervousness, better concentration, a balanced diet...
