A look back at the Paris Bar's first Health Day

First Lawyers' Health Day: a salutary time for listening and prevention.
"A population in great mental distress, and above all a much younger population than the one we met on the Heart Bus. Lawyers compare themselves to "sponges" who constantly absorb and "never wring out" the sponge.

On April 7, the Paris Bar organized, in partnership with the association Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes, a unique day dedicated to the health of lawyers. This first event, designed as a "break" in the often hectic daily lives of our colleagues, enabled 65 men and women to benefit from a complete cardiology course, with personalized medical support.

Healthcare professionals listening to a discreet but profound malaise
All the mobilized doctors and nurses emphasized the richness of the exchanges with participants. Beyond the medical measures, this day opened up a space to speak that is often unheard of for many lawyers.

"The interviews were very rich, a privileged moment to express their daily lives. Some spoke of their difficulties in finding an attending physician, or even a cardiologist in Paris." - Nurse participant

The testimonies converge: chronic stress, sedentary lifestyle, heavy mental workload, difficulties in accessing basic medical care... all worrying signs for a highly exposed profession.

"Stress was expressed by everyone we met. Lack of time for self-care seems to be the norm of the profession, or at least expressed as such." - Participating doctor

Among women in particular, several spoke of gynecological follow-up that had been non-existent for several years. Some were referred to specialists, while others simply found the day a rare opportunity to listen and talk.

.
The feedback was very positive (95% satisfaction expressed in the questionnaires) and the main message was crystal clear: this day was felt as a bubble of benevolence, a time suspended in a hectic daily routine, and a real lever for raising awareness. Many left with the clear intention of resuming medical check-ups, reviewing certain lifestyle habits, or simply putting themselves back, a little, at the center of their own attention.

And now?
The Paris Bar intends to continue this momentum. Building on the success of this first edition, it is planning further preventive actions, in conjunction with health partners and support structures, to firmly anchor the health reflex in lawyers' professional lives.
