MARC LADREIT DE LACHARRIERE

MARC LADREIT DE LACHARRIERE

Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière was born on November 6, 1940 in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). He comes from an old Ardèche family from the hamlet of La Charrière. A graduate of the École Nationale d'Administration, he began his career at Banque de Suez et de l'Union des Mines, which later became Indosuez. Head of M&A for both the bank and its parent company, Compagnie Financière de Suez, he joined L'Oréal as CFO, later becoming Vice-Chairman and CEO.

In 1991, he set up his own company, Fimalac, of which he is Chairman and CEO and in which he owns 100% of the capital. Today, the group is developing 4 core businesses: private equity with Warburg Pincus, digital activities through Webedia, live entertainment through the production of shows and the operation of venues (Fimalac Entertainment), and real estate assets, mainly offices.

Since the creation of his group, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière has wanted his company to contribute to a more harmonious and supportive society, notably through his foundations: Agir Contre l'Exclusion (FACE) and the Fondation Culture & Diversité. Created in 2006, the latter's mission is to promote access to culture and higher education in the arts for young people from modest backgrounds. Over 56,000 students have already benefited from these programs.
In 2020, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière and his children also decided to create the Fondation Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière to perpetuate and expand these initiatives. The Foundation's mission is to act in the service of a more equitable society, offering the same opportunities for development whatever the social or ethnic origin of individuals, their place of birth, any disability they may have, or their religious convictions.

These commitments are pursued through actions in favor of France's cultural influence, as well as in economic and social debate. Fimalac is a founding member of the Fondation du Patrimoine, a major sponsor of the Louvre Museum, and the initiator of the Prix de Photographie Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière - Académie des beaux-arts. In 1991, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière decided to save a historical, literary and humanist treasure by taking over the Revue des Deux Mondes, Europe's oldest magazine, founded in 1829.

In 2007, in recognition of his commitment to cultural dialogue and social cohesion, French President Jacques Chirac asked him to head the Agence France-Muséums, which is responsible for creating the Louvre Abu Dhabi museum, of which he is Honorary Chairman. In 2010, in the wake of the "Arab Spring", Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière created the Association des Musées Méconnus de la Méditerranée (AMMed), with the aim of helping to build a more harmonious society between the peoples of the Mediterranean rim by promoting cultural dialogue. Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière is a member of the Conseil artistique des musées nationaux and chairs the Association pour le rayonnement de la Grotte Chauvet.

In 2005, in recognition of his commitment to culture, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts (Institut de France). In 2009, in recognition of his commitment to culture and solidarity, UNESCO named him Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Diversity.

Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière was awarded the Grand'Croix de la Légion d'Honneur by French President Nicolas Sarkozy. He is also Commandeur des Arts et Lettres, and has been awarded the Médaille Grand Vermeil de la Ville de Paris by Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris.
