The French Society of Vascular Medicine is dedicated to the development of vascular medicine in terms of science, education and quality of care. Vascular Medicine is defined here as the body of knowledge and medical practices concerning blood vessels (arteries, veins and microcirculation) and lymphatic vessels.
Its objectives are translated into missions in various fields, in particular:
- Stimulating fundamental and applied research.
- Promotion of scientific exchange by all appropriate means.
- Continuing medical education, particularly for vascular physicians.
- Promotion of quality, notably through the evaluation and improvement of professional practices.
- Expertise in all scientific and technical issues related to the practice of vascular medicine, in particular the formalization of best practice guidelines and professional consensus in the evolving fields of vascular medicine.
- Disseminate vascular medicine knowledge to other healthcare professionals, patients and the general public.
- Facilitating exchanges between different vascular medicine practices.
- Recognition of vascular medicine in all its dimensions and by all authorities.
- Exchanges with all countries and representation of French vascular medicine at international level.
To take effective action and reduce the morbidity and mortality rate among women, we need to make not only women, but also doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals aware of the specificities of vascular disease in women.
The S.F.M. V is therefore a natural supporter of the "Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes/Women's CardioVascular Healthcare Foundation" Endowment Fund, which will use its actions to alert, mobilize and support women to take better care of themselves at the three key stages of their hormonal lives (contraception, pregnancy and menopause).
The regular on-line publication of news, articles and testimonials on vascular medicine should help to disseminate good professional practice, while supporting women and healthcare professionals in the management of the specificities of vascular disease for women.
Together, we can all play a part in effective prevention to save women's lives and improve their quality of life.
Pr Marie Antoinette Sevestre, President of the S.F.M.V.
