"January 2021, I'm off to spend a few days with my parents in Brittany, without a child or husband as my mom is undergoing chemo and we haven't seen each other over Christmas.
The Covid has been there for almost a year. I don't want to put my mother at any risk, so the few days leading up to my trip are very indecisive and stressful will I go or not, test and self-test... Finally, I go.
I arrive and find her in pretty good shape. I'm reassured.
During this stay, one night I'm awakened at 3am by a pain in my chest that radiates down both arms. I felt like I was in a vise. I get up, start sweating and feel like vomiting.
I spend a few minutes telling myself it's a bad dream, indigestion, the Covid... I think I'm losing consciousness, but I'm not sure. I wake up, the pain is still there. I call SOS Médecin, who are a little worried and send an ambulance to take me to the nearest emergency room.
They start by giving me an electrocardiogram and a chest X-ray. I'm told everything's fine. I insisted to the doctor, because I really felt something was wrong. They take a blood sample "to reassure me" and put me in the waiting room.
All of a sudden, I feel a commotion in the corridors; the nurses seem to be looking for someone, and it's me they're heading for. I'm told that my blood test is very bad and that I'm being transferred to the discharge room.
I feel like I'm in a bad dream. The cardiologist arrives and thinks it's pericarditis. He rereads the initial electrocardiogram and tells me: "Madam, it's a heart attack...". I tell him it's impossible, I'm too young!
I go into the coronary angiography room. Part of my coronary artery is blocked. The treatment is simple and painless. Unfortunately, a few minutes later, a spot appears in the vision of one eye. Apparently, a clot had also blocked an artery in my eye.
Today, three years later, I'm doing very well. I have a preventive treatment, I do sport and I have no after-effects at all."
“It’s January 2024. A month after giving birth, I wake up with a start. My heart is racing—it’s beating at over 180 beats per minute. This isn’t just a simple flutter; I feel like I’m about to pass out… I’m short of breath, exhausted, and have a persistent cough. But, like many new [...]
I am the mother of a 10-month-old boy. During my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with fibromuscular dysplasia (a disease of the connective-elastic tissue of the arteries), which led to renal artery stenosis. After a first month that went well, in the second month I started to have regular headaches, [...]
“Four more days, Ms. Guyon, and we wouldn’t be talking today.” Those were my cardiologist’s words. Just writing them here sends a chill down my spine. On June 2, 2024, I was taking a walk with my family in the fields near our house. After 15 minutes of leisurely walking, my heart started [...]
