If we manage to be optimistic, we'll live longer. And probably happier. The life expectancy of the most optimistic is 5% higher than that of the most pessimistic, an average of just over four years.
These are the conclusions of a vast study conducted by the American Geriatrics Society on the link between optimism and life expectancy, involving 160,000 women aged 50 to 79, followed over a period of twenty-six years.
Among the most optimistic of the group, life expectancy was increased by just over four years compared to the most pessimistic women. Men were the subject of another study, which revealed a similar increase in life expectancy.
Yet another study showed that optimists smoked less, were more physically active and ate more healthily. It also reveals that a healthier lifestyle is not enough to justify their longevity.
Other factors could therefore explain it: optimists manage stress and emotions better, are less depressed and follow their treatments more assiduously when they are ill, enabling them to improve the prognosis for recovery.

Women are also concerned, as cardiovascular risk has become the leading cause of death in women, and aneurysm is one of them. But aneurysms can easily be detected by ultrasound. At equivalent doses, 76 of them had a higher concentration in women’s blood than in men’s blood, [...]
