How You Can Help Address the Women’s Heart Health Emergency

Christine, age 46, died from a cardiac arrest on her daughter’s 14th birthday, which was also the day before her oldest son’s wedding. She hadn’t been feeling well that evening, but didn’t say anything to her kids because she didn’t want to ruin the party. But her death could have been prevented.
The COVID-19 health crisis has made things worse for many women like Christine. With job losses, fewer odd jobs, more social isolation and excessive mental load, more women don’t have time to listen to their bodies and take care of themselves. They put other people before themselves and no longer respect themselves as individuals.
Every day in France, 200 women die from a cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of mortality among women. Yet these cardiovascular events could have been prevented in 8 out of 10 cases through screening, regular gynecardiology check-ups and healthier lifestyles.
We have to take action to prevent more tragedies like the one Christine’s family experienced. That’s why Women’s Cardiovascular Healthcare Foundation (Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes) is creating the Heart Bus. The Bus will meet women in high-risk situations where they live to offer cardiovascular and gynecardiology screening.
