ALERT because the situation is alarming
Since its launch in 2020, the Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes Endowment Fund has been warning about the cardiovascular health of women in precarious situations. For over a year now, cardiologists have been dealing with a worrying rise in cardiovascular disease, particularly among women.
As a result of the crisis, consultations with specialists have fallen by almost 70%. Many people have suffered a deterioration in their health as a result of not receiving care on time. Waiting causes an increased risk, particularly among women, who underestimate their symptoms.
86% of the precarious women met by the association Agir pour la Santé des Femmes (ADSF) have health needs, and require the organization of access to care and a coordinated pathway to improve their health.***.
The brutal isolation of confinement, sometimes accentuated by family and emotional breakdowns, has taken a heavy toll on their mental and physical health.
Exhausted, overworked, with heightened anxiety, these women are particularly vulnerable to the main environmental risk factors that provide a breeding ground for the development of cardiovascular disease: stress, smoking, alcohol, sedentary lifestyle, unbalanced diet, overweight, obesity...
"Women, particularly those in precarious situations, don't listen to themselves, depreciate themselves, neglect themselves, lack information, have no access to specialized medicine... Under-screened, under-treated, under-monitored or not at all, they are at high cardiovascular risk. They also have an increased risk of recurrence and mortality after a 1st cardiovascular accident", explains Pr Claire Mounier-Véhier, cardiologist and vascular physician at Lille University Hospital, and co-founder of Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes, which fights to ensure that all women have access to a structured cardio-gynaecological care pathway.
AGIR - The Heart Bus will offer medical care to vulnerable women
Thierry Drilhon, corporate director and co-founder of Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes, announces the 1st Heart Bus tour. "This campaign will kick off on September 29, 2021, and will position itself in disadvantaged neighborhoods in 5 French cities to reach out to women in precarious health and social situations. Equipped buses will enable healthcare professionals to screen for cardio-gynecological diseases; give advice on prevention, stress management, diet, sleep, physical activity and also put these women back into coordinated follow-up, in partnership with local players." "Claire Mounier-Véhier adds: "We urgently need to get these women in precarious situations back onto a care pathway. Because, as Thierry Drilhon insists, "in 8 out of 10 cases, a cardiovascular accident is avoidable!"
In line with the latest recommendations issued by the French National Authority for Health (HAS)** last April, Agir pour le Coeur des Femmes will be a real-life observatory for :
● Assess the relevance of using a cardiovascular risk assessment tool in primary prevention, and if necessary, adopt a tool that is sufficiently compatible with the French population for cardiovascular risk detection ;
● Define a strategy for the non-medication management, with or without drug therapy, in primary and secondary prevention, of a patient at cardiovascular risk in primary care medicine;
● Propose a patient-centered strategy, based on a medical decision.
Sensitive to the Enchères du Cœur project, Tajan was keen to make a commitment alongside Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes, in favor of accessibility to health and care for the most precarious women. In the words of Romain Monteaux-Sarmiento, the auction house's Communications Director: "When we first met the Agir pour les Cœur des Femmes team, we were immediately struck by the relevance of the cause. We were also won over by the energy, determination and legitimacy of Claire Mounier-Vehier and Thierry Drilhon, and their recognition of the need to prevent a risk that is still too little known convinced us to get involved. We can help save lives through the various projects of the endowment fund, such as the Heart Bus. Let's all take action together!
