"This Thursday, I have to go shopping in Auxerre. In the morning, I read in the Yonne Républicaine newspaper that a screening operation for cardiovascular disease for women was taking place at the Salle Vaulabelle. I took the risk of going there without an appointment... Luckily, I was immediately taken in and taken to a doctor to answer a questionnaire about my health and lifestyle.
It's all over for over an hour, in various indoor and outdoor areas: electrocardiogram, carotid and abdominal artery Doppler, blood pressure test.
I return with my results for a final consultation with a doctor. But he finds the ECG abnormal, with a suspected heart attack in progress. The medical team called the SMUR, who took me to the emergency department of Auxerre hospital, where I was promptly treated.
The next day, I will have a coronary angiogram, and then return home with a blood-thinning treatment. I'll be seeing my doctor again soon, and will undergo doppler tests as soon as possible.
I'd like to thank the organizers of these screening days, which are very useful but perhaps not sufficiently well known. The women living in the Auxerre area were probably better informed than me, as I live 35 km away. Thank you again.
