Lipedema: a conference to improve understanding and action in New Caledonia

Held on October 5 at the South Province Auditorium in New Caledonia, the conference dedicated to lipedema raised public awareness of this still little-known chronic disease, which affects approximately one in ten women. Often triggered or aggravated by hormonal changes, it causes pain, swelling, spontaneous bruising, and significant psychological impact.
Alongside Agir pour le Cœur des Femmes, represented by Dr. Souad Sediri, Ambassador in New Caledonia, and the Southern Province (CIDFE), healthcare professionals emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and multidisciplinary care. Conservative treatment is based in particular on adapted compression systems, an anti-inflammatory diet, and gentle physical activity, with particular attention paid to women's overall health. This evening of discussion provided an essential space for information and dialogue to better recognize lipedema, avoid diagnostic uncertainty, and support women in achieving a lasting improvement in their quality of life.
